Nordstrom Will Interview Walk-Ins at Phipps Plaza and Perimeter Mall on Thursday, Nov. 5

Hiring

Nordstrom’s two metro Atlanta department stores, at Phipps Plaza and Perimeter Mall, will interview job seekers without appointments on Thursday, Nov. 5, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. as part of what the retailer calls its National Hiring Event. The company’s event listings, both posted Oct. 27, say it is filling both seasonal and regular positions and that “on-the-spot job offers will be made for most roles.”

The Phipps Plaza store is at 3500 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30326. The Perimeter Mall store is at 4390 Ashford Dunwoody Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30346, according to the listings.

How the day works

Nordstrom says candidates do not need to schedule in advance and can arrive at any time during the six-hour window. Once inside, applicants are told to follow signs to the hiring area or ask any employee for directions. A resume is welcome but not required, and the company advises setting aside about an hour for the interview process.

People who cannot attend are not shut out. Both listings say an application submitted through the Nordstrom careers site “will still be considered,” and that applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. Current Nordstrom employees are directed to apply internally through Workday.

Which jobs are on the table

The two stores listed different mixes of openings, nearly all of them commission sales.

At Phipps Plaza, the seasonal openings named are commission sales in women’s apparel and men’s apparel. Regular, non-seasonal openings are listed in kids’ apparel, women’s shoes, women’s apparel and accessories, “and more.”

At Perimeter Mall, the seasonal list covers commission sales in kids’ apparel, accessories and men’s apparel, plus personal stylist support. Regular openings are listed in kids’ apparel, women’s active and women’s apparel.

Separate postings on Nordstrom’s Workday job board, checked at about 13:30 UTC on Monday, Nov. 2, show other store roles at the same locations beyond those named on the event pages, including a seasonal asset protection coordinator at each store and a seasonal customer service representative at Perimeter Mall. Those are individual postings, not a count of hires, and the event pages do not say how many people either store plans to bring on.

What the pay looks like

Nordstrom publishes pay ranges on the listings. For salespeople at both stores, the posted rate is $13.50 an hour. Selling employees also earn commission that Nordstrom says varies by merchandise: apparel, shoes and accessories sales typically pay from 3% to 14.5%, while beauty and men’s fragrance roles typically receive 3%. Actual earnings in a commission job therefore depend heavily on sales volume, which is usually highest in the holiday weeks ahead.

At Perimeter Mall, personal stylist support pays $16.45 to $17.15 an hour, the same range posted for the seasonal customer service representative role there. The seasonal asset protection coordinator postings at both stores list $20.80 to $21.60 an hour. Nordstrom notes that offers depend on location, job-related knowledge, skills and experience.

The event listings advertise a 20% employee discount, opportunities for advancement, and medical, vision, dental, retirement, paid time away, life and disability insurance and employee assistance resources. The company adds that eligibility for benefits can depend on location, job level, classification and length of employment, so seasonal hires should ask which of those apply to them.

What job seekers should weigh

The posted job descriptions ask for flexible availability, including evenings, weekends and peak periods. The customer service posting also lists physical requirements such as continuous movement for six to eight hours a shift and occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds.

The listings do not say when people hired at the event would start work. Applicants deciding between seasonal and regular roles should ask during the interview how long a seasonal assignment is expected to last and whether it can convert to a regular position, since the listings do not say.
