Cobb County Posts Six Non-Water Jobs This Week, From a $17 Parks Internship to a Sheriff’s Office Horse-Care Role

Hiring

Cobb County government opened six jobs outside its water system between Monday, Nov. 2, and Thursday, Nov. 5, according to the county’s own job board, and most of them close within the next week. The postings run from a $17.00-an-hour parks internship for students to a $51,802 recreation coordinator job at the Windy Hill Community Center in Smyrna, and include an unusual Sheriff’s Office role caring for the horses of the Mounted Patrol Unit.

The county’s board on the NEOGOV GovernmentJobs platform listed 83 open postings when it was checked at 17:49 UTC on Friday, Nov. 6. Ten of those were posted Nov. 2 through Nov. 5; four of the ten belong to the Cobb County Water System, whose openings were covered separately earlier this week, so they are left out here. The listings below are postings, not hires, and each carries its own deadline.

Sheriff's Office: caring for Mounted Patrol horses

The Sheriff’s Office posted an Animal Care Specialist job (job number 05305) on Wednesday, Nov. 4. It pays $18.31 to $23.34 an hour, is full time, and closes Thursday, Nov. 12, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. The worker supports the unit’s Stable Master: daily checks of every service mount, including picking feet, treating thrush and rain rot, grooming and dressing wounds; giving medications and monitoring vital signs on sick or injured horses; and keeping the medical and medication records the State Department of Agriculture reviews. The posting also lists helping train Mounted Patrol deputies in basic riding and horse care, working events and patrols, and handling supply orders. Applicants need a high school diploma or GED, some vocational or technical training in equine care, two years of equine-care experience and a valid driver’s license.

Extension Services: two jobs closing Nov. 11

Cobb’s Extension Services department posted two full-time jobs on Nov. 4, both closing Wednesday, Nov. 11. A 4-H Program Assistant (job 05299) pays $18.31 to $23.34 an hour and helps plan and teach programs in agriculture and natural resources, family and consumer science and 4-H youth programs; the posting says day and overnight camps and evening and weekend events are part of the job. It calls for a high school diploma or GED plus vocational or technical training in a field such as education, agriculture, horticulture or family and consumer science, two years of relevant experience and a driver’s license.

A Fiscal Technician II (job 05300) pays $20.40 to $26.00 an hour to investigate and resolve account discrepancies and support monthly reconciliation. It requires a high school diploma or GED with accounting training and two years of bookkeeping or related experience. Applicants who meet the minimums must also pass Excel and data-entry skills tests, sent by email after the posting closes; the posting says the tests close Nov. 11 at 11:59 p.m. and must be taken on a desktop or laptop, not a phone or tablet.

Parks: an internship, a coordinator and a part-time front desk

The Parks department posted three jobs. A Recreation Program Coordinator I at the Windy Hill Community Center, 1885 Roswell St. in Smyrna (job 05278, posted Nov. 2, closing Nov. 12), pays $51,802.31 a year. The role centers on therapeutic recreation for people of diverse abilities, and it requires a bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation or a related field plus two years of experience, or an equivalent combination; Certified Parks and Recreation Professional status is preferred.

A Part-Time Recreation Leader at the South Cobb Recreation Center in Austell (job 05288, posted Nov. 2, closing Nov. 12) pays $17.34 an hour. The posting says the work is mainly nights and weekends, handling customer service, registrations and court reservations. A high school diploma or GED is preferred, along with one year of steady work history in any field.

The Parks Seasonal Intern posting (job 05289, posted Thursday, Nov. 5, closing Thursday, Nov. 19) pays $17.00 an hour and lists the Al Bishop Complex as its location. It is open to high school seniors, undergraduate and graduate students, and people who graduated within the last six months; a valid driver’s license is required. The county says interns rotate through units including recreation, athletics, aquatics, special events, natural resources and marketing.

All six applications are filed through the county’s GovernmentJobs page. Pay ranges are the advertised ranges for the grade, and the closing times above are the ones printed on each posting as of Friday’s check.
