Shepherd Center Posts Eight Atlanta Jobs This Week, From a Food Service Aide to a Clinical Research Nurse

Skills & Careers

Shepherd Center, the Atlanta rehabilitation hospital that treats spinal cord and brain injuries, posted eight jobs between Tuesday, Nov. 3, and Friday, Nov. 6. The openings range from a food service aide position that asks for a high school diploma or equivalent experience to nursing roles that require five years of experience or more.

The eight postings were on Shepherd’s Workday careers site, which listed 74 open postings in total when checked at 17:48 UTC on Friday, Nov. 6. Five of the eight are dated Thursday, Nov. 5, two are dated Tuesday, Nov. 3, and one went up Friday morning. Every posting lists Atlanta, except a clinical research nurse role whose location appears only as “MCAR.” None of them shows a wage or salary range. A posting is an advertised opening, not a hire.

According to its postings, Shepherd treats people with spinal cord and brain injuries, multi-trauma, traumatic amputations, stroke, multiple sclerosis and pain. Two of this week’s openings are in its multiple sclerosis programs.

Jobs with the lowest bar to entry

The full-time food service aide job (R4996, dated Nov. 5) serves patients, customers and staff in food and nutrition services, filling meal orders that follow each patient’s nutritional needs. It requires a high school diploma or equivalent experience plus relevant service-industry experience. Healthcare food service experience and familiarity with electronic tray-ticket systems such as CBORD or Computrition are preferred. The physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds and repeated bending and squatting.

A full-time outpatient medical assistant job (R4988, dated Nov. 3) also asks for a high school education or equivalent experience. It requires no certification, but it does call for prior experience in a hospital or patient-care setting. A diploma or associate degree from a medical assisting program is preferred.

Therapy, counseling and research roles

For the MS wellness program, a full-time exercise physiologist posting (R4991) requires a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology, kinesiology or a similar field, plus experience building and running exercise programs. Basic Life Support certification is required within 90 days of starting, and two years of hospital or rehabilitation experience is preferred.

The outpatient MS clinic counselor (R4820) needs a Georgia license from the Composite Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists. The posting prefers experience with medical patients and their families, interdisciplinary teams, group therapy and crisis or grief counseling.

The PRN speech-language pathologist job (R4997, dated Nov. 6) is part-time. It requires a master’s or doctoral degree in speech-language pathology, a Georgia license, BLS, and either ASHA’s Certificate of Clinical Competence or eligibility for the clinical fellowship that leads to it. The patients range from adolescents to older adults.

Nursing and finance

The clinical research nurse posting (R4993) is for a 32-hour-a-week role that balances patient care with research protocols. It requires a BSN, a Georgia or multistate RN license, CPR certification and at least five years of clinical nursing experience, and it lists training in human subject protection and Good Clinical Practice. A nurse unit manager role (R4992) requires a BSN, an active Georgia or multistate RN license, BLS within three months of hire and 10 or more years of clinical or leadership experience.

The one business role in the group, a senior accountant (R4776, dated Nov. 3), requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business plus either two years of public accounting or five years of industry experience. Workday experience is listed as a plus.

Applications go through Shepherd’s Workday site. Because the postings do not list pay, applicants will need to ask about compensation during the hiring process.
