Employers

Southwire, the Carrollton-based wire and cable maker, has posted night-shift production and warehouse jobs at its Carrollton plants this week with listed pay of $21.79 to $27.25 an hour, along with a distribution lead job in nearby Waco that pays $27.50 to $29.27 an hour.

The postings come from Southwire’s own careers site, checked at about 17:40 UTC (12:40 p.m. ET) on Friday, Nov. 6. A search for Georgia jobs sorted by date returned 78 open postings. Eleven carried dates from Tuesday, Nov. 3, through Friday, Nov. 6: three on Nov. 3, three on Nov. 4, three on Nov. 5 and two on Nov. 6. One of the Nov. 3 postings, a warehouse job, had already been taken down when opened. The dates are the ones shown on each posting. Each is an opening Southwire is advertising, not a count of hires.

Carrollton, in Carroll County, and Waco, in Haralson County, are both on the western edge of metro Atlanta.

Night-shift plant jobs with posted pay

The entry point is Operator, Take Up I, posted Thursday, Nov. 5, at the plant the posting calls MC Carrollton. It pays $21.79 to $23.18 an hour on C shift, 6:50 p.m. to 7 a.m. Southwire describes it as an entry-level job: rewinding wire to set lengths while spark testing it, tagging and packaging product, patching defects and stripping PVC and nylon insulation off scrap copper and aluminum wire that goes to rod mills in Carrollton and Kentucky.

An Operator, Drawing I posting from Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the facility the posting calls BWP pays $25.62 to $27.25 an hour on a 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift. Southwire calls it a medium-skill role. The operator sets up and runs drawing machines that pull copper and aluminum wire to various sizes from feeder stock, changes coils and bobbins, sets machine speed and footage, makes minor repairs and fills out daily production reports.

Both postings require a high school diploma or equivalent, the ability to read, write and speak English, and the ability to lift up to 45 pounds and stand for long periods. Spanish is listed as a plus. Workers must cross-train on other equipment in their group and may fill in for absent co-workers. The Drawing I posting warns of hot and cold conditions in a building without climate control.

A Warehouse Associate Manufacturing II job posted Wednesday, Nov. 4, also at BWP, pays $24.34 to $25.89 an hour on the 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift. It asks more of applicants: experience with Microsoft Office and the SAP/Advaris inventory system, and certification on mobile equipment and an overhead crane for rod mill work. The duties include loading and unloading trucks, tagging and weighing scrap, logging inventory and running a forklift. A separate Operator, Compound Equip I posting from Nov. 4, which involves forklift work and packing out compound material, does not list pay.

Distribution lead in Waco

The best-paid hourly posting is Lead, Distribution at Southwire’s Atlanta Distribution Center in Waco, posted Nov. 5. It pays $27.50 to $29.27 an hour on what the posting calls Swing Shift B. The lead helps the supervisor run the department, fills in on supervisory duties and runs machinery when needed. It requires a high school diploma and the ability to lift 50 to 75 pounds, and the lead must obtain a forklift operator’s license.

The four postings with listed pay also list a 401(k) with matching and a pension plan, with pension eligibility after 1,000 hours worked.

Salaried and part-time openings

The other new Georgia postings do not list pay. They include an Engineer, Electrical III job in Carrollton posted Nov. 6, which asks for a bachelor’s degree, five to seven years of experience and up to 30% travel. There are also two senior financial analyst jobs, one at the Carrollton headquarters and one in Atlanta’s 30339 ZIP code, and a director of specifications and standards. A part-time fitness center team member job at the company’s Living Well Fitness Center in Carrollton, posted Nov. 6, requires at least 20 hours a week.

Applications are taken through each posting on careers.southwire.com. Pay ranges are as posted, and listings can come down once positions are filled.
