Gordon Food Service Posts Three Atlanta Cloud and Network Security Tech Roles on Nov. 5

Skills & Careers

Foodservice distributor Gordon Food Service posted three Atlanta-based technology jobs on Thursday, Nov. 5, all in cloud infrastructure and network security, according to the company’s own Workday careers site.

The three requisitions are a Cloud Services DevOps Engineer (R-59672), a Senior Network Security Engineer (R-59671) and a Network Security Team Manager (R-59668). Each is listed as full time with Atlanta, Georgia, as the work location and a posting date of Nov. 5. A search of the company’s U.S. job board for “Atlanta” at about 02:30 UTC on Friday, Nov. 6, returned 17 postings. Four were dated Nov. 5: these three Atlanta-only jobs and a second Senior Network Security Engineer requisition listed for two locations, led by Wyoming, Mich. The postings are recruiting notices; the company has not announced a hiring total, and nothing in them describes a new Atlanta office or team.

The company has been recruiting in this field before this week. A Cloud Security Engineer posting tied to Atlanta (R-57588) has been open since Sept. 24 and describes a hybrid schedule of four days in the office in Wyoming, Mich., or Atlanta, with one remote day. An earlier Cloud Services DevOps Engineer requisition (R-57629), listed for two locations led by Wyoming, Mich., has been up for more than 30 days.

A DevOps job open at two levels

The DevOps posting says Gordon Food Service is “actively seeking candidates at either an Intermediate or Senior level.” The intermediate track calls for five or more years in IT, software engineering, DevOps or system administration and a required bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. The senior track calls for seven or more years, with the degree listed as preferred, and adds architectural strategy, long-term roadmaps, capacity planning and leading cross-functional projects.

The skills list reads like a standard modern platform-engineering stack: hands-on experience with AWS, Azure or Google Cloud; infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Puppet or SaltStack; familiarity with Kubernetes, OpenStack or software-defined networking; scripting in Python, Go, Shell, Ruby or Perl; and build tools including GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, Artifactory and Nexus. The job involves building CI/CD pipelines, monitoring network, storage and compute services and pushing security earlier in the development process. The posting describes a standard office environment with an on-call rotation, occasional weekend work and light travel.

Zero Trust and network security

The Senior Network Security Engineer posting is the most specialized of the three. It describes a technical lead for moving the company from legacy proxy and remote-access tools to Secure Access Service Edge and Zero Trust Network Access platforms, and from IP-based security toward access controls based on user identity, device posture and risk signals. The engineer would also design segmentation with next-generation firewalls and micro-segmentation, protect operational technology and industrial control system environments, and serve as the main technical stakeholder for network detection and response tools. It lists work with identity teams on SAML, OIDC and directory services.

The Network Security Team Manager job is a leadership role. It requires a bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field and eight years of IT experience, including two years supervising, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The posting lists a Monday-to-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule on a hybrid basis, four days in the office and one from home, and says the manager may join an on-call rotation for escalations.

What applicants should know

None of the four Atlanta-only postings reviewed lists a salary or pay range. The postings include one condition outside job seekers may not expect: candidates who currently work for a Gordon Food Service customer must provide a letter of support from their management if they are selected for an interview. Applications are taken through the Gordon Food Service careers site on Workday.

For Atlanta technology workers, the postings show what one large distributor is asking for in cloud and security hires: several years of hands-on experience, infrastructure-as-code skills and, for the security roles, Zero Trust and segmentation work. Four postings are not a measure of broader demand in the region.
