Hiring
The Home Depot has opened a new set of hands-on jobs in metro Atlanta this week, away from the technology roles that usually dominate its headquarters postings. Between Monday, Nov. 2, and Friday, Nov. 6, the Atlanta-based retailer posted two CDL yard-driver openings, two distribution-center supervisor roles, a first-shift security officer job at its corporate campus and a group of remote contact-center positions listed under Georgia.
A keyword search of the company’s Workday careers site for “Atlanta” and “Georgia” at 17:43 UTC on Friday returned 442 postings. Seventy-three of them were dated Nov. 2 through Nov. 6. Most of those 73 were office roles: 35 at the Store Support Center headquarters and eight at the Pennant Park office. Four were at Atlanta distribution and logistics sites, and 21 were filed as “Georgia – Virtual.” Each posting is an opening the company is advertising, not a count of people hired, and the site changes daily.
Yard drivers with a Class A license
Two Yard Driver CDL postings are filed under a facility the company labels Atlanta RLC 8616. Req197906 went up Monday, Nov. 2, and Req197932 on Thursday, Nov. 5. Both are full time. The postings do not give a street address.
Yard drivers keep the yard organized and spot trailers at dock doors, and they log every trailer move on a hand-held device. The posting says about 80% of the job is inspecting yard equipment and driving yard trucks. Drivers with a CDL may also be asked to move trailers to offsite locations and nearby distribution centers. Applicants must be at least 21, hold a valid Class A commercial driver’s license, have at least one year of work experience and be able to load and unload heavy items. A high school diploma or GED level of skills is the minimum education. The posting warns of regular exposure to dust, fumes or odors.
Two supervisor openings in distribution
A DC Quality Assurance Supervisor role (Req197846), posted Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the Atlanta RDC 5250 site, is the troubleshooter for inventory accuracy. According to the posting, the job spends 40% of its time finding and fixing inventory-control and warehouse-management-system problems, and it audits inbound shipments for vendor compliance. The building serves “over 100 stores.” It requires two years of work experience. Knowledge of the Manhattan WMOS warehouse system and Microsoft Office is preferred. Overnight travel runs 5% to 20% of the time.
A Distribution Center Area Supervisor role (Req198191), posted Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the Atlanta DFC 5860 site, leads 20 to 30 hourly associates. The supervisor is responsible for hiring, evaluating, disciplining and terminating them. The posting requires two years of work experience, flexibility to work various shifts and the “ability to relocate.” A bachelor’s degree, warehouse-management-system experience and three or more years of supervisory experience are preferred, not required.
Campus security and remote phone work
On Thursday, Nov. 5, the company posted a Corporate Security Officer job (Req198353) at the Store Support Center campus. The shift runs 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. Officers screen visitors, patrol campus perimeters, monitor CCTV and access points, and write incident reports. The minimum is three to six months of experience.
Five remote “Virtual Apron” contact-center roles listed under Georgia went up on Wednesday, Nov. 4. They include a flooring customer service representative (Req198125) that requires no prior work experience. The job places scripted outbound calls to sales leads and takes inbound calls to schedule, confirm or reschedule in-home appointments. A millwork support specialist role (Req198135) asks for one or more years of experience.
None of the Atlanta or Georgia postings reviewed states pay for Georgia. The remote postings list a single hourly figure, but only for residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Nevada, New York City, Ithaca and Westchester County in New York, and Washington: $16 for the flooring customer service job, $18 for the millwork support specialist, and $21 for the senior flooring inside sales and millwork design specialist roles. Candidates elsewhere should not assume those rates apply.
Applications go through the company’s Workday careers site. Postings can close without notice once roles are filled.
