City of Atlanta Posts Four Jobs Friday Morning, From a $46,000 Tree Trimmer to a CDL Garbage-Truck Operator

Local Affairs

The City of Atlanta put four new job postings on its official careers portal on Friday morning, Nov. 6, including a $46,000-a-year tree trimmer for the parks department and a solid waste operator who drives the city’s rear-loading garbage trucks. None of the four lists a college degree as a minimum requirement.

The postings went up between 8:57 a.m. and 10:36 a.m. ET, according to the time stamps in the city’s Oracle-based job system. When the portal was checked at about 17:36 UTC (12:36 p.m. ET) Friday, it listed 76 open postings in all, and these four were the only ones dated Nov. 6. Postings are recruiting activity, not hires, and none of the four says how many people the city will hire.

Tree Trimmer I, Parks and Recreation

The tree trimmer job, posted at 10:09 a.m., pays a listed $46,000 a year and is tied to the Department of Parks and Recreation’s administrative offices at 160 Trinity Ave. SW. It is the entry level of the city’s tree-care job family: trimmers work in a crew under direct supervision, inspecting trees for defects and hazards, pruning, felling and removing trees, planting new ones and handling post-job cleanup.

The listing names the equipment involved: pickup trucks, aerial boom trucks, tractors, tree spades, augers, stump grinders, brush chippers, chainsaws and sprayers. Trimmers also serve as emergency on-call responders and must be able to work “in precarious positions at considerable heights.” The minimum requirements are one to two years of tree care and maintenance experience and a valid driver’s license; three to five years of experience and ISA Certified Arborist or EHAP certification are preferred. The job is classed as heavy work, with occasional force up to 100 pounds. The posting text lists Nov. 20 as its closing date.

Solid Waste Operator I, Public Works

The solid waste operator job, posted at 9:51 a.m., pays $40,945.05 to $51,181.31. Operators drive rear-loader, dual-drive and mini garbage trucks for the Department of Public Works with laborers riding the rear step, collecting household garbage, recyclables and yard trimmings. They run pre- and post-trip inspections, refuel with diesel and DEF, retrieve landfill weight tickets and log weight and GPS data on a tablet.

Applicants need a high school diploma or GED, six months of experience operating heavy trucks or other large equipment, a Class B commercial driver’s license and flagger certification. A Class A CDL, heavy-equipment certification and a year of operating experience are preferred. The posting text carries an outdated “Posting Expires: 10/07/26” line, while the portal itself lists no closing date for the requisition, so applicants should not assume a deadline.

Two office jobs

An Administrative Assistant II for Parks and Recreation, posted at 8:57 a.m., pays $44,547 a year and closes Nov. 12. It requires a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience, with an associate degree in business administration preferred. Duties include reception, mail, records searches, open-records requests, purchase quotes and expense reports. The job follows the city’s hybrid policy of at least four in-person days a week.

The fourth posting, a Department of Watershed Management Performance and Eligibility Monitor at 72 Marietta St., went up at 10:36 a.m. and pays $44,369 to $59,232. The monitor reviews customer phone and chat interactions at the water department’s contact center, scores them against quality standards and reports trends to managers. It requires three years of contact center or customer service experience, including one year in quality assurance or monitoring; a bachelor’s degree and experience with systems such as Calabrio or Verint are preferred. The position is designated essential, so it may require evenings, weekends, holidays and bad-weather days. It closes Nov. 13.

None of the postings says where in a range a new hire would start. Listings can change or close at any time; applications are filed through the city’s careers portal.
