Hiring
Infrastructure consulting firm AECOM is holding an invitation-only hiring event in Atlanta on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 5 and 6, aimed at students and recent graduates for jobs and internships that start in spring or summer 2027. On Oct. 27 the company added three more Atlanta postings tied to the event: an entry-level civil engineer on its traffic and safety team, a transportation planning intern and a traffic, intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and safety intern.
According to the postings on AECOM’s SmartRecruiters careers site, the event opens Thursday evening with a networking mixer from 6 to 8 p.m., where candidates hear from AECOM staff about projects, career paths and the company and meet other students, recent graduates and AECOM professionals. Interviews follow on Friday at AECOM’s Atlanta office. The postings list the primary work location as 1360 Peachtree St. in Atlanta and describe the roles as hybrid.
How invitations work
The event is not open to walk-ins. AECOM’s general “Entry-Level Opportunities” posting for the event, first posted Sept. 25, says it exists “to gather interest in the event” and asks interested candidates to submit a resume to that advertisement; applicants are then directed to apply to specific requisitions that match their discipline. The postings do not say how or when invitations are sent, and with the mixer two days away, candidates who have not yet applied should not assume they can still be added.
A search of AECOM’s SmartRecruiters board at about 15:05 UTC on Tuesday, Nov. 3, returned 20 Atlanta postings linked to the event, spanning civil, roadway, bridge, structural, environmental, mechanical and electrical engineering, environmental science and communications as well as the three newest roles. Each posting is an opening AECOM is advertising, not a hire. None of the postings reviewed lists pay.
The three newest roles
The Entry-Level Civil Engineer posting (J10161317) is a full-time job in AECOM’s Transportation business line supporting the Atlanta traffic and safety team. It requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering; an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) credential is preferred, along with basic knowledge of software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, STAAD or MathCad. The work includes designs, calculations and working drawings under an experienced engineer’s supervision, with Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley OpenRoads named as the typical design tools.
The Planning Intern posting (J10161608) is for a transportation planning intern supporting planning and public engagement on transit, rail, roadway and multimodal projects. Duties include data analysis and GIS mapping, drafting memos and reports, preparing materials for public meetings in communities across Georgia, and grant-related research on Federal Transit Administration, Federal Highway Administration and Federal Railroad Administration programs. Candidates must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in transportation or urban and regional planning, civil engineering, public policy, geography or a related field and have completed at least one year of study. Bachelor’s graduates who plan to continue to a master’s degree in a similar field are also eligible.
The Traffic / ITS / Safety Intern posting (J10161110; a second listing, J10160884, carries the same title) supports traffic safety, ITS and traffic operations projects, including gathering and evaluating data on vehicle and pedestrian incidents. It requires current pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field and at least one completed year of study; familiarity with Power BI or Tableau is preferred.
Conditions to know
All three postings say AECOM will not sponsor U.S. employment authorization now or in the future and does not offer relocation assistance. AECOM also says every new hire must attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office, a step it describes as a safeguard against fraudulent hiring activity. Benefits listed, depending on employment status, include medical, dental and vision coverage, paid time off, a retirement savings plan and an employee stock purchase plan.
AECOM describes itself as a Fortune 500 firm with revenue of $16.1 billion in fiscal 2025 and a workforce of more than 50,000 planners, engineers, scientists and other professionals.
