ISM’s Services Employment Index rose to 50.1 in September from 47.8, its first reading in expansion after two months of contraction. Seven services industries reported employment growth and eight reported declines.
U.S. employers reported about 7.08 million job openings on the last business day of August, down from a revised 7.34 million in July, while hires, quits and layoffs changed little, according to the BLS JOLTS release of September 29.
