Georgia Unemployment Rate Held at 3.2% in August, Below the U.S. Rate

The Job Market Today

Georgia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.2% in August, placing it among the lower-rate states and below the 4.1% national rate reported for the month, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The state reading is useful context for Atlanta employers, but it is not a substitute for metro data. State unemployment measures where people live, while employer payroll measures jobs by workplace, and the two series can move differently. BLS said unemployment rates fell in eight states and the District of Columbia in August and were stable in 42 states.

Georgia’s relatively low rate points to a labor market where recruiting difficulty can remain role-specific even as national hiring cools. The next Atlanta metropolitan release, covering August, is scheduled for September 30 and will provide the more relevant local comparison.
