Hiring
Two civilian jobs in the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, a criminal information systems technician who keeps jail and warrant records current and an accountant who runs the sheriff’s property tax sales, stop taking applications at 11:59 p.m. Eastern on Sunday, Nov. 8. Both postings went up in October on Fulton County government’s official careers site, so the deadline, not the openings, is what is new.
A third Sheriff’s Office posting, for a security specialist, is genuinely fresh: it opened Thursday, Nov. 5, and closes Sunday, Nov. 15. All three were checked on the county’s GovernmentJobs site at about 02:27 UTC on Friday, Nov. 6 (9:27 p.m. ET Thursday). Each says applicants must pass a background investigation, drug screening and a polygraph to be hired by the Sheriff’s Office. Postings are recruiting notices, not hires, and none states how many positions will be filled.
Criminal information systems technician: $48,093
The technician posting opened Friday, Oct. 30, at a salary of $48,093 a year (pay grade 13). The job centers on the Georgia Crime Information Center and National Crime Information Center systems. According to the posting, technicians book and fingerprint inmates, update inmate records with court dispositions and arrest warrants, enter and cancel warrants and protection orders, register sex offenders, answer “hit” requests from other agencies, place detainers and holds for extradition and immigration, and prepare the next day’s court calendar for inmate transport.
The minimum is a high school diploma or GED plus one year of GCIC or directly related experience, or an equivalent mix of education and experience. Hires must complete GCIC certification, Criminal Justice Information Systems network operator training and security awareness training within their first 30 days. The county may require a typing test of at least 40 words per minute. The posting warns that the Sheriff’s Office runs 24/7 and that technicians must be flexible to work nights, holidays and weekends.
Accountant I: $58,457 to $68,500
The Accountant I posting, open since Thursday, Oct. 22, pays $58,457 to $68,500 (grade 17) and is assigned to the Sheriff’s Property Tax Unit. The unit handles levy and execution on properties within Fulton County to collect on judicial foreclosure liens and delinquent tax liens presented to the sheriff. Duties listed include checking each lien for validity, confirming that statutory pre-sale notices go to every party with a recorded interest, placing legal advertisements in the county’s legal organ, calculating minimum bids, recording bids and payments during the sale, reconciling funds and preparing Sheriff’s Deeds.
It requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field plus two years of government accounting, accounts payable, procurement or similar financial work, or an equivalent combination. The posting notes that levy sales are held on the courthouse steps and that the job involves carrying items of about 10 to 15 pounds.
Security specialist: new Nov. 5
The security specialist job lists a range of $41,545 to $80,493 (grade 10) and requires a high school diploma or GED and a Georgia driver’s license. The work includes controlling building and parking-lot access, operating X-ray machines and metal detectors, monitoring CCTV and alarm systems and, at the jail, tasks such as logging inmate movements, distributing mail and supplies, and maintaining booking and sentencing records. The posting says it requires a “life-long, national criminal history check” and shift work that includes nights, holidays and weekends.
A county deadline on Friday
Separately, Fulton County’s police department has an Animal Services Bite Investigator posting, opened Oct. 30 at $50,498 to $93,926, that closes at 11:59 p.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 6. It requires a high school diploma or GED plus three years as an animal control, law enforcement or code enforcement officer or in related work, and National Animal Control Association ACO I and II certificates within 18 months of hire.
The Sheriff’s Office jobs are listed as unclassified county positions. The postings say applicants are rated on the education and experience documented in their applications and that additional information will not be accepted after an application is received.
