Atlanta Police Post Six Civilian Jobs on Nov. 5, From a $54,863 Crime Center Analyst to a $21.29-an-Hour 911 Dispatcher

Hiring

The Atlanta Police Department put six civilian job postings on the City of Atlanta’s official careers portal on Thursday, Nov. 5, led by an analyst for its Real Time Crime Center, which feeds camera video and license-plate-reader data to responding officers. The crime center analyst job pays a posted $54,863 a year and does not require a college degree.

The six police postings were part of 10 listings the city dated Nov. 5. When the portal was checked at 02:25 UTC on Friday, Nov. 6 (9:25 p.m. ET Thursday), it showed 76 open postings in all. Postings are recruiting activity, not hires, and none of the listings says how many seats it will fill.

Real Time Crime Center analyst

According to the posting (requisition 34408), crime center analysts monitor the center’s software for automatically generated alerts, listen to police dispatch channels, operate and steer surveillance cameras, and run video searches and data pulls for criminal investigations. They work under a shift supervisor and an operations commander but are expected to act on their own and may train new analysts. The listing is tied to the department’s E-911 location at 180 Peachtree St. NE.

The minimum is a high school diploma or equivalent plus two to five years of experience reviewing video footage, data mining and using multiple software programs, along with experience in investigative research and criminal history and statistical reports. Hires must earn Georgia Crime Information Center and National Crime Information Center certification within three months. A college degree, especially in criminal justice, is preferred and “expected to be completed within two years of hire.” The center runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and analysts may be asked to work overtime or on days off. The posting is open until Dec. 3.

Data, dispatch and fleet roles

An APD Data/Reporting Analyst II (requisition 34430), reporting to the department’s Chief Administrative Office at headquarters, 226 Peachtree St. SW, lists a salary of $47,474.94, below the crime center job. It requires a bachelor’s degree in a field such as public administration, finance, information technology or statistics, plus four years of professional data reporting experience, with SQL, Microsoft Access and Excel named as required skills; R, Python or Visual Basic experience is preferred. The posting says it “does not perform data entry” and follows the city’s hybrid policy of at least four in-person days a week. It closes Nov. 19.

A Communications Dispatcher I for APD’s E-911 center (requisition 34401) pays $21.29 an hour and is open until filled. A high school diploma is the only education requirement, but applicants selected to test must pass a dispatcher performance test at City Hall, and hires must obtain GCIC certification and Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council certification as a communications officer within six months. The job requires nights, weekends and holidays; the posting notes shift differential pay for evening and overnight shifts.

Three logistics jobs at headquarters also close Nov. 19: a Fleet Administrator I at $54,863 (bachelor’s degree and five years of fleet management), a Fleet Manager II at $68,156 (associate degree and seven years in equipment and maintenance management) and an Inventory Specialist at $47,320, which requires warehouse, shipping and receiving experience and the ability to lift 70 pounds.

Airport enforcement and a wastewater manager

Outside the police department, the city posted an ATL Enforcement Officer job on Nov. 5 for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, paying $44,439 to $62,400. Officers direct traffic, write parking tickets and inspect taxis, limousines and other vehicles for hire, working shifts in a 24/7 operation that include holidays, weekends and bad weather. It requires a high school diploma or GED and one year of public-facing or inspection experience; the posting text says it expires Nov. 10.

A Department of Watershed Management Pollution Control Manager at the Intrenchment Creek facility, 1510 Key Road SE, was posted a day earlier, on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at $68,169 to $91,040. It calls for five years in industrial waste inspection, wastewater monitoring or compliance, including three in leadership, plus a Class 1 wastewater operator license and Georgia Association of Code Enforcement Officials (GACE) certification or the ability to get it. It expires Nov. 11.

Pay on most listings is a single figure or a range, and the postings do not say where in a range a new hire would start. Listings can change or close at any time.
