Hiring
Encore, the event-technology company that runs audiovisual departments inside large hotels, posted seven Atlanta openings on Thursday, Oct. 29, most of them for entry-level event technicians, according to the company’s own careers site. A check of the site at about 20:30 UTC on Friday, Oct. 30, showed 12 Atlanta listings in all, with seven dated Oct. 29 and the rest posted between May and mid-October.
Each listing carries its own job ID, so the count reflects separate requisitions rather than one ad repeated. The listings are recruiting activity, not hires, and the site does not say how many people Encore expects to bring on.
The Oct. 29 listings
Five of the new postings are for Event Technician, Audio Visual, spread across four hotels: two separate requisitions at the Hilton Atlanta (EVENT045950 and EVENT045951), and one each at the Renaissance Concourse Atlanta Airport Hotel (EVENT045946), the Kimpton Sylvan Atlanta (EVENT045693) and the Marriott Marquis (EVENT045961).
The other two are a step up. Encore is seeking a Project Coordinator at the Hilton Atlanta (PROJE045960) and an Internet Lead at the Signia by Hilton Atlanta (INTER044755).
Older Atlanta listings still showing on the site include an Event Technical Lead at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel Atlanta (posted Oct. 14), an event technician at the InterContinental Buckhead and an event rigger at the Marriott Atlanta (both Sept. 23), and inventory control coordinator roles at the Signia and Loews Atlanta hotels (Sept. 11 and May 29).
What the jobs pay
Every Atlanta listing states an hourly range. The event technician postings list $14.22 to $18.49 an hour. The technical lead role lists $15.64 to $20.33, and the internet lead $17.21 to $22.37. The project coordinator and rigger postings each list $22.90 to $29.77.
Encore says final pay depends on factors including location, experience and skills, and that some positions may be eligible for overtime, bonuses or incentives. The site’s job data tags all 12 Atlanta listings as full-time, and the listings note that benefits eligibility varies by position and full- or part-time status.
What the technician role requires
The technician job is the entry point. Encore describes it as setting up, running and breaking down basic audiovisual equipment for hotel events, meeting with guests on site and checking in on events through the day. The posting also asks technicians to help with invoices and to use floor “up-selling techniques.”
A high school diploma is required, and an associate degree is preferred. One year of customer service or hospitality experience and one year of audiovisual experience are both listed as preferred rather than required. External hires must complete all required training and certifications within 60 days of starting. Applicants must be able to lift 50 pounds, and a valid driver’s license is required for anyone who may drive a company vehicle.
The working conditions are spelled out plainly: irregular hours and on-call status covering days, evenings, weekends and holidays, work from lifts and ladders, and possible assignments at more than one hotel in the area.
The higher-level openings
The project coordinator plans small events or portions of large ones, prepares production and labor schedules, attends client meetings, reviews crew timesheets and processes invoices. That posting asks for at least three years of technical experience in event technology or broadcast, plus a high school diploma; two years of administrative and customer-service experience and the ability to read technical diagrams are preferred.
The internet lead sets up and troubleshoots event networks, including access points, switches, phones and webcasting gear. It requires one to two years of field experience in internet services support, and new hires must earn Encore’s Technical Level 200 certification within 30 days.
The technical lead posting requires two to three or more years of audiovisual experience.
For job seekers
The listings sketch a ladder inside hotel event production, from technician to lead to coordinator, with posted pay rising along the way. Applications go through Encore’s careers site, where each posting has its own apply link. Because the technician roles carry on-call, weekend and holiday scheduling, applicants should weigh the stated hours alongside the hourly range.
