Anduril Plans 3,100 Permanent Jobs in $3.7 Billion Shipyard Project

Employers & Industry

Anduril Industries plans to invest $3.7 billion in a two-million-square-foot software-defined shipyard in Baltimore County, Maryland, with more than 3,100 permanent jobs expected at the facility.

Maryland officials announced the Arsenal-2 project October 6. They estimate it will directly or indirectly support more than 14,000 jobs overall and generate more than $2 billion in annual economic output, including about $312 million in wages.

Advanced manufacturing for submarines

The facility will be built at Tradepoint Atlantic in Sparrows Point and is intended to expand the U.S. submarine industrial base. Anduril says the site will add production capacity for components needed for Virginia-class submarines.

The project also includes a proposed workforce-training Center of Excellence supported through state and local incentive commitments. Some public funding elements still require approval by the Maryland General Assembly and Baltimore County Council.

What the jobs number means

The 3,100 figure refers to new permanent jobs expected at Arsenal-2. The larger 14,000 figure includes indirect support and should not be treated as 14,000 Anduril hires.

What to watch: construction timing, the training pipeline, occupational mix and the pace at which permanent production hiring begins as the facility moves toward operations.
