Georgia’s State Psychiatric Hospitals Post 15 Openings, Including Central State Nurses at Up to $98,500

Employers

Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) put 15 openings at its state hospitals on the Team Georgia Careers job board on Monday, Nov. 2, and Tuesday, Nov. 3. The jobs include registered nurses in Milledgeville, an internal-medicine physician in DeKalb County, and security, aide, food-service and housekeeping staff in Savannah, Columbus and Augusta. As of 13:26 UTC on Wednesday, Nov. 4, every posting was live on the state’s Workday careers site, and all of them listed pay.

These are recruiting postings, not hires, and each requisition may cover only one position. Several carry older requisition numbers, which suggests they are reposted searches rather than brand-new jobs.

Central State Hospital, Milledgeville

The nursing jobs are at Central State Hospital. A Registered Nurse posting (JR0000003162) lists $72,000 to $94,000 a year across three shifts: 7 a.m.–3:30 p.m., 3–11:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.–7:30 a.m. The minimum is an associate degree in nursing and a current Georgia or multistate RN license. A Charge Nurse posting (JR0000003995) pays $98,500 on the 7 a.m.–3:30 p.m. shift. It requires an RN license and four years of nursing experience, including two in a lead or supervisory role, or one year as a Registered Nurse 3. A bachelor’s degree in nursing and mental-health experience are preferred.

Two lower-wage Central State postings went up on Nov. 3 as well. A Health Aide 3 (FST Lead) job (JR0000003201) pays $44,117 and requires a diploma or GED plus one year of related experience. A Groundskeeper 3 job (JR0000004115) pays $31,027.36 on a 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. schedule and requires a valid driver’s license. The nurse and aide postings stay open until Feb. 28, 2027, and the groundskeeper posting until Jan. 31, 2027.

Georgia Regional Hospital Atlanta, Decatur

Georgia Regional Hospital Atlanta (GRHA), which the department describes as a 300-bed hospital on 174 acres in DeKalb County, posted an Internal Medicine Physician opening (JR0000007510) on Nov. 2 that pays $215,000 to $225,000 depending on board eligibility or certification. The physician would work in admissions. The posting requires an MD or DO, a completed residency in psychiatry, family medicine, internal medicine or a related specialty, and current DEA registration.

The same campus is hiring a Facility Security Officer 3 (JR0000007618) at $47,715.20 for a 2–10:30 p.m. shift. The officer patrols buildings and grounds and can act as shift lead. The minimum is a diploma or GED plus two years of related experience. GRHA also posted an Admin Support 3 role (JR0000007498) at $37,065.60 for 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Savannah, Columbus and Augusta

Three Savannah postings carry the hospital code “GRHS.” A Health Aide/Driver (JR0000005102) pays $40,144 and transports patients to appointments, sometimes over long distances. State-vehicle rules require drivers to be at least 21, to have three years of driving experience and to have a clean motor-vehicle record. A Facility Security Officer Corporal (JR0000007595) pays $43,378.40 on evenings, and a Legal Status/HIPAA Coordinator (JR0000007542) pays $41,741.82.

At West Central Georgia Regional Hospital in Columbus, a part-time Professional Licensed Social Service Worker (JR0000007528) pays $32 to $40 an hour depending on degree and experience. A Food Service Worker job (JR0000007535) pays $26,635.71 to $40,184.72. At East Central Regional Hospital in Augusta, two Administrative Support 2 jobs in the forensic unit each pay $34,455.20, and a Housekeeper job (JR0000007486) pays $24,200.80 to $26,540.80.

What applicants should know

Applications go through the Team Georgia Careers Workday portal. Most of the postings say DBHDD jobs may require a drug screen, a TB evaluation and an annual flu vaccination, with limited medical or religious exemptions. Most also say the agency cannot give application-status updates by phone or email and may close a posting once it has enough qualified applicants, so an end date in 2027 is not a guarantee the job will still be open. In the physician posting, DBHDD describes itself as operating five hospitals and six field offices statewide.
