City of Atlanta Posts 17 New Openings in Two Days, From an HVAC Inspector to Airport Communications Chiefs

Hiring

The City of Atlanta put 17 new job postings on its official careers portal on Monday, Nov. 2, and Tuesday, Nov. 3, adding a mechanical-systems inspector, a revenue auditor and three senior leadership roles, two of them in communications at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, where the top posted salary reaches $200,000.

Twelve of the postings carry a Nov. 3 date and five a Nov. 2 date. The portal listed 71 open postings in all when checked at 13:19 UTC (8:19 a.m. ET) on Wednesday, Nov. 4; the same 71 appeared with a 50-mile radius around Atlanta applied. By the portal’s location tags, 60 are tied to Atlanta, 10 to College Park and one to Hapeville. Postings are recruiting activity, not hires.

HVAC Inspector

The HVAC Inspector, posted Nov. 3 in the Department of City Planning’s Office of Buildings at 55 Trinity Ave. SW, pays $51,035.56 to $58,000 and stays open until filled. It does not require a degree: the minimum is a high school diploma or GED plus five years working on HVAC systems as a contractor or journeyman, or an equivalent mix of experience and training. Applicants need a valid Georgia driver’s license and either an International Code Council mechanical inspector certification or a Georgia unrestricted heating and air (conditioned air contractor) license.

The inspector checks heating and air-conditioning work in new construction and alterations, including high-rise and big-box projects, against mechanical and gas codes, reviews plans and can issue citations and stop-work orders.

Contract compliance and revenue audit

The Mayor’s Office of Contract Compliance is hiring a deputy director at $120,000 to $140,000; the posting closes Nov. 17. The deputy reports to the office’s director and oversees compliance on city construction, professional-services, commodity and concession contracts, the city’s MBE, FBE, SBE, DBE and ACDBE certification programs, and compliance work at the airport. It requires a bachelor’s degree in a field such as public administration, finance, law or contract management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, plus experience managing professional staff. Seven or more years in the field and five in management are preferred.

A Revenue Auditor I at City Hall pays $68,156.41 to $78,000 and is listed as open until filled. The auditor checks that business license, occupational tax and excise tax revenues are correctly computed, reported and paid. Minimum requirements are a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or a related field, or an equivalent combination, and four years of accounting or auditing experience. A CPA, CIA, CFE or CGFM designation and Gentax tax-software experience are preferred.

Airport communications leadership

Two linked communications jobs went up Nov. 3 for the airport’s offices at 6000 N. Terminal Pkwy. in College Park, both closing Dec. 3. The Airport Assistant General Manager II for communications and marketing, paying $160,000 to $200,000, reports to the deputy general manager and directs communications, marketing and brand work. It calls for a bachelor’s degree and 10 years of leadership experience in communications, public relations, marketing or a related field, including managing budgets.

The Airport Director II for communications, also titled senior communications director, pays $140,000 to $160,000 and reports to that assistant general manager. It leads media relations, crisis communications and story pitching. The minimum is a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, English or a related field plus six years in journalism, public relations or strategic communications.

Engineering, plant and airfield supervision

A Department of Watershed Management Civil Engineering Manager II, posted Nov. 2 at $107,271 to $143,207, supports operations and maintenance at the city’s water treatment and reclamation facilities. It requires a Professional Engineer license, an engineering bachelor’s degree and eight to 10 years of related experience including supervision. That posting closes Monday, Nov. 9.

Two supervisory jobs posted Nov. 3 accept a high school diploma or GED. A Watershed Plant Operator Supervisor at the R.M. Clayton plant pays $58,977 to $86,675 and requires five years of wastewater plant experience and a Class I water distribution license. An Airport Maintenance Supervisor I on the airfield pays $51,035 to $69,132, asks for three years in construction or facilities maintenance, and requires outside hires to obtain a Class B commercial driver’s license within 90 days; it closes Nov. 11.

Closing dates vary by posting, and some list only “until filled.” None of the postings says where in the range a new hire would start. Listings can change at any time, and the counts above reflect a single snapshot of the city’s portal.
