BLS said employment changed little in all major industries in September. Health care, nonresidential specialty trades and manufacturing still edged up, while financial activities lost jobs.
Private data-center construction spending ran at a $75.2 billion annual rate in July, up 57% from a year earlier, while overall construction spending fell. Nonresidential specialty trade contractors added about 86,000 jobs over the year to August.
New single-family home sales ran at a 684,000 annual rate in August, up an estimated 6.4% from July, but the ±19.5% margin of error means the increase is not statistically significant.
