Research & Data
A ribbon-cutting is usually a photo opportunity. The one SpecialtyRx has scheduled for 1:30 p.m. this afternoon, Wednesday, Nov. 4, in Sandy Springs marks something more useful for metro Atlanta workers: a working pharmacy with a stated plan to grow its staff. The long-term care pharmacy company says its Sandy Springs location employs 35 people today and is expected to create 75 to 100 additional jobs over the next two years.
That projection was first announced on Oct. 6, so it is not new this week. What today adds is the public celebration, and a look at the employer’s own job board shows the plan already has a local face: a handful of open positions in Sandy Springs.
A pharmacy built for care facilities
SpecialtyRx describes itself as the nation’s largest privately owned long-term care pharmacy. It serves skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities and rehabilitation centers rather than walk-in shoppers. According to the company’s announcement, its Sandy Springs pharmacy began operating earlier this year, covers 14,000 square feet and is the hub for its Georgia operations. It serves more than 5,000 patients and has capacity for up to 15,000 as regional demand grows.
The services explain why staffing matters. The company lists 24/7 pharmacist support, emergency STAT medication delivery, same-day IV services, and prescription and delivery tracking for the facilities it serves. “Being closer to the patients and facilities we serve allows us to deliver the reliable and personalized support our partners depend on,” co-founder Joel Zupnick said in the release.
The jobs you can see right now
The 35 current employees include pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, operations professionals and support staff, the company says. Those are existing jobs, not new hires.
The job board on the company’s careers page is the clearest guide to what is open now. At 13:20 UTC on Nov. 4, it listed eight openings under Sandy Springs, Ga. Six are full-time pharmacy technician roles: ADS delivery, field, customer service, data entry, narcotics, and a general licensed technician position. There is also a per diem licensed pharmacist job and a client services manager role whose posting says the person must live near Augusta.
The postings show how varied the work is. Field and ADS delivery technicians drive to skilled nursing facilities to restock automated medication cabinets and run monthly inventory audits, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. They need a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, and the ADS delivery posting offers mileage reimbursement. Customer service, data entry and narcotics technicians are posted for a 2:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. shift, and two of those postings add rotating weekends and holidays. Every technician posting asks for a Georgia pharmacy technician license or registration. The pharmacist role calls for a Georgia pharmacist license, and long-term care experience is preferred.
None of the postings lists pay. The careers page names 401(k), health insurance, paid time off, paid training and an employee assistance program among company benefits, and mentions part-time and remote opportunities in general terms.
The Catch
The 75 to 100 positions are a two-year projection, not open jobs or confirmed hires. The company has not published a hiring timeline, pay ranges or a breakdown of which roles the expansion will add. The eight listings are current postings, not hires, and one of them is based near Augusta. Most of the open roles also require an existing Georgia pharmacy credential, so they are not entry points for people with no pharmacy background. The 15,000-patient figure is capacity, not current demand. The ribbon-cutting is a chamber and community celebration with a facility tour, not a hiring event.
Still, the core of the story holds up. A healthcare employer with a working facility, a real team and live local postings has put a public number on its growth. For pharmacy technicians and pharmacists around Sandy Springs, the practical step is simple: check the job board on SpecialtyRx’s careers page, read each posting’s credential and shift requirements, and apply through the employer’s own system.
